Allied Waste has ordered a new shipment of extra-tough garbage containers that could help discourage trash-hunting bears on Missoula’s urban fringe.
Bear-proof cans should be available for rent by Monday, according to Bear-Aware coordinator Erin Edge of Defenders of Wildlife. The cans are part of a citywide effort to prevent bear-human conflicts in places like the Rattlesnake, Grant Creek, East Missoula and Pattee Canyon.
So pick your apples, make a pie or two and consider bear-proof garbage cans if you live in the Pattee Canyon area.
