University area drivers will want to watch for road closures on Arthur-5th to Eddy beginning April 4, 2011 when a 6 week water main replacement project will start. One lane of traffic will be maintained on 5th and 6th at all times, but the City says to “expect significant delays and congestion.” This would be a nice time to have your favorite CD in your car! And maybe a coffee from The Buttercup Cafe & Market! Judy Wahlberg, Neighborhood Advocate Volunteer.
Quick update: robins have been rumored to be back in town but seem to be avoiding the University District! Today we’ve seen it all: snow, sunshine, rain, hail, wind. Ahhh, Spring in the Rocky Mountains & Montana. Love it.

Nothing like waiting for the very last day of a four-month exhibit! Hubby and I walked over to campus & met about 200 close & personal friends to collectively look at the prints which were amazing. They were so beautiful. It was very special to see them & I am glad we did go after all. Look for the upcoming exhibits on this blog in the near future. If you have not visited this display at the University of Montana, you might want to hurry up. March 12, 2011 is its last day! The gallery is open 12-6 daily through 3/12/11 in UM PARTV building. Admission is free, donations accepted.
In the 400 block of Connell Avenue a home is undergoing major renovation. It is being gutted and seems like it will be rebuilt from the inside & a 1970s style addition is being torn off (today actually)! Can’t wait to see the results. Judy Wahlberg, Neighborhood Volunteer Advocate
Biomass Demonstration Feb. 23
The BioMax, a mobile biomass gasifier and electricity generator owned by UM, will operate at Paws Up Ranch in the Blackfoot Valley this month.
Beetle-killed trees and waste biomass will be processed by a Vermeer chipper to provide feedstock to the BioMax, which will then produce electricity.
The public is invited to watch the BioMax operate and enjoy a short presentation about the equipment from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Paws Up Ranch. Refreshments will be served.
The electricity will be fed directly onto Missoula Electric Cooperative’s power lines. Once on the grid, the cooperative will use it to power homes and ranches in the area.
